Soccer betting players are gearing up for the World Cup, but in the NHL, the Stanley Cup champion has been crowned, and it ended a 49-year drought for this Original Six team.
Patrick Kane scored the game-winner in overtime of a 4-3 win in Game 6 in Philadelphia, making it the third year in a row that a visiting team has won the Stanley Cup on the road. It was up for debate as Kane was the only person who saw the puck go past Flyers goalie Michael Leighton, but once they figured it out, the celebration was on, and the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup for the first time in 49 years, which now leaves Toronto with the longest drought.
Captain Jonathan Toews was awarded the Conn Smythe for playoff MVP, and it's difficult to think of anyone who has had a better year than Toews, outside of Sidney Crosby. Toews won the gold medal with Canada at the Olympics, scored in the gold-medal game, and won the award for Top Forward in the tournament. Now he's the captain of the Stanley Cup winners (only Crosby was a younger captain in last year's win), and he scooped up the Conn Smythe.
And it may not be over for the Blackhawks, who have a sparkling young nucleus that is still getting better. The number of Chicago-Pittsburgh picks for next year's Stanley Cup finals among betting players and those who make picks is going to blow your mind.
